elizabeth,   nj

Elizabeth, NJ is located 7 miles south of Newark and 15 miles southwest of NYC. The population of Elizabeth is underserved in terms of adequate transportation, walkable/mixed-use streets and quality green space. The master plan focuses on improving public transportation within the city and to Newark, remediating the river, implementing green space and increasing density. In rezoning the downtown area, main streets with one story commercial buildings gain housing units above. Residential development is further executed along the river's edge, providing different typologies of housing. The variety of units allow for a diverse population- such as the local college student, the extended family, the single parent and young couples. These typologies take on different forms, including studios, 1/2/3 bedroom duplexes, live-work units, communal apartments and townhouses. Residents who commute to New York can utilize Jersey transit, which provides a 30 minute train ride to Penn Station. This master plan and housing development make Elizabeth a valuable, thriving city just outside the metropolis of New York.
